A Message from the Chief

Monday, August 24, 2020 9:36:00 AM

On Sunday August 23, 2020, we held our Lodge Executive Meeting virtually and your Chapter and Lodge Leadership was present. We discussed the changes in our program and how we are able to emerge and continue to serve the meaning of our order. We have faced challenges and have overcome them tremendously. I would like to inform you directly of a few key items from the LEC:

2020 Vigil Nominations

The 2020 Vigil Nomination deadline has been extended once more. This gives each eligible candidate to be put forth to the Vigil Selection Committee. The Vigil Selection Committee cannot do their part without the help and support from members that submit nominations. This being said, the 2020 Vigil Nomination deadline has been extended until the end of day on Monday August 24, 2020. I encourage you, if you have not done so already, submit a nomination of an Arrowmen that you feel has been worthy for the Vigil Honor. For more information and how to submit a nomination, go to oa.shac.org/vigil

Re-emerging From COVID-19

As we begin to emerge from this pandemic, the National Order of the Arrow has given us guidance on our return. Our lodge Inductions and Program sectors have been working to provide the best Fall action plan. We will need the support from the chapters and at the unit level. Here in the next few weeks, more information will be released from the lodge on how we plan to emerge from this challenge! I encourage each of you to continue the conversations within your chapter and local units.

Fall Activities

Fall Activities may have been in the back of your mind, however we are actively working with the Sam Houston Area Council and the SHAC - Enterprise Risk Management Committee to ensure our safe and healthy return. While we hope to invite you to our lodge’s premier event this Fall, we are actively monitoring the conditions and referring to our Council’s Risk Management Committee. I look forward to this fall as we continue on our journey once more socially distanced and ready for an adventure.

I would like to thank all of the Chapter and Lodge leadership that was in attendance this afternoon. This could not be possible without each of you! Finally, I would like to extend a huge thank you to each member in our Lodge. This year has been a different one for sure. Keep your courage and remember those around you. Stay safe and healthy.

Brothers,

I wish each and every one of you the best in staying healthy and safe during these uncertain times. I would like to take a second and reach out to each of you. How are you living by the Scout Oath and Law while Social Distancing? What are the ways you are keeping the meaning of our Order alive and well? Have you been participating in any Social Distancing Service Projects around your community? Share your pictures with the hashtag #ScoutingAtHome and #OASHAC on your favorite social media!

I would like to share a few words for you to reflect upon, as you once did in your night of silence when you took the Oath.

“In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity.”

—Sun Tsu

No matter how you have been spending your days during this pandemic, remember that an opportunity has been shared with you. Whether the opportunity is to observe what truly matters to yourself, or being able to connect with folks across the world! This is something that you would not have thought would happen. One thing I want you to know is that we as Brothers of Colonneh Lodge are able to reflect on the good, and most importantly, share positivity with others through many social platforms! We got through Harvey by being Houston Strong. We can get through this! I am checking in with our lodge and each of you, I would like for you to reach out to your neighbors, family, and friends, see if they are doing okay. Texans Helping Texans, it’s what we do.
