Spring Fellowship is a weekend event held each spring, that allows Arrowmen to recommit themselves to the principles of our order: brotherhood, cheerfulness and service. The event starts with a Friday night campfire and dessert. The main program is held on Saturday with providing cheerful service to Camp Strake in the morning and fun activities during the afternoon and ending with a closing campfire.  The event is being held at Camp Strake (2020 Camp Strake Rd., Coldspring, TX 77331). This year's theme is Building a Brighter Future, using colored building bricks to convey this metaphor of a staircase reaching higher. Program Guide

The latest state, county, and Center for Disease Control and Maintenance (CDC) requirements on the day of the event will be followed. Participants will be notified before the event of the specific requirements. All participants must follow any procedures recommended by the council's Enterprise Risk Management Committee such as completing a pre-event screening form, temperature checks, wearing a mask (unless for medical reasons), limiting group sizes that remain together during the event, frequent hand washing, and/or social distancing. See the council's COVID-19 "At-Risk" Participant Statement. Participants who are sick or displaying any COVID-19 symptoms should not attend.

Participants must attend a mandatory safety meeting either Tuesday, April 20 at 7:30 or Thursday, April 22 at 8:30 pm

The training will contain helpful information about Spring Fellowship, the mandatory safety guidelines, check-in process, how Cohorts work, camping guidelines for the weekend for Troops and Cohorts, and a description of the activities. If you are a virtual participant through Momentum, this training is not mandatory.

Momentum: Discover

For those unable to attend our in-person Spring Fellowship, but still eager to participate in a thrilling event, be sure to check out Momentum: Discover offered by the national Order of the Arrow. This virtual option is open to current OA members and non-Arrowmen, with a free option, as well as a premium registration with some added perks. Colonneh Lodge will be live streaming the opening and closing campfire, so Arrowmen can still stay connected locally while participating virtually.

Saturday Afternoon Activities

Throughout the weekend, there will be a wide variety of games for everyone to enjoy. Join a friend at the climbing wall. Take on other chapters in a game of kickball. Compete with Arrowmen from your own chapter in gaga ball. Try out some awesome activities like canoe racing, sporting arrows, knife throwing and many more! Saturday afternoon participants will be able to visit the various areas of the new Camp Strake such as the aquatics center, lakeside water activities, climbing tower, shooting ranges, field games, and the zip-line!

Shows

Spring Fellowship will kick off with a Friday evening show. Find out who’s who, where’s where, and get a preview of the weekend’s activities! Saturday evening, the main show will be a time for fun and laughs and present awards.

Trading Post

Colonneh Lodge’s trading post is top-of-the-line, offering Order of the Arrow merchandise at affordable prices. Stop by to pick up your limited-edition patch sets, belt buckles, shirts, OA gear, and so much more. Don't forget to pre-order your limited edition Spring Fellowship 2021 event t-shirt!

The trading post will be open Saturday from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. It will re-open after the Saturday evening show and stay open to 11:00 pm.

Lodge Executive Committee (LEC)

An LEC will be held on Sunday morning.  The Lodge Executive Committee (LEC) is composed of the lodge chief, lodge vice chief, chapter chiefs, and lodge advisers. This LEC committee meets several times a year to facilitate the business matters of Colonneh Lodge. The LEC will meet on Sunday. All lodge officers and chapter chiefs (or designee) and their advisers are required to attend the LEC; however, all Arrowmen are welcome and encouraged to attend this important planning and business meeting. 

Interfaith Service

An interfaith service will be conducted for all participants on Sunday morning. An interfaith service is a brief worship or meditation, specifically designed for Scouting events where there may be members of more than one faith group. The intention of an interfaith service is to provide a spiritual focus during a camping experience that does not reflect the views of a particular denomination or faith. An interfaith service can be defined as a gathering of Scouts held to contribute to the development of their spirituality and to promote a fuller understanding of the Scout Oath and Law, with emphasis on one’s Duty to God.

Brotherhood

There will be a Brotherhood Walk on Saturday for Arrowmen attending Spring Fellowship. After six months of service as an Ordeal member and after fulfilling certain requirements, a member may take part in the Brotherhood ceremony, which places further emphasis on the ideals of Scouting and the Order. Completion of this ceremony signifies full membership in the Order of the Arrow.  Brotherhood is an opportunity for members to evaluate their past service to Scouting (camping and unit involvement) and to their lodge, and to reaffirm their belief in the high purposes of the Order. All eligible members are encouraged to participate in the Brotherhood Walk and Ceremony on Saturday afternoon. See the schedule for the specific time. There is no charge for the Brotherhood Walk or Ceremony.

American Indian Activities

A favorite activity at Spring Fellowship is seeing the inventive regalia and tireless efforts of those who drum, dance, or sing around the drum. The American Indian Activities Committee members will host a booth throughout the day for Arrowmen and non-Arrowmen alike to see how you can start your journey along the path of AIA. This is a great opportunity to learn how to drum, sing, or dance. Learn what it takes to build your own regalia, or just stop by the booth to catch a glimpse of our inspiring AIA members. Depending on the weather, you may even be able to witness a demonstration featuring the drum and skilled dancers on Saturday.

Arrival and Check-In

Travel

Travel to and from event is the responsibility of the guest. Personal vehicles are welcome at the event. Chapters may arrange travel with other members of your chapter. See oa.shac.org/chapters for chapter contact information.

Arrival

Upon arrival, go directly to your campsite and park.  If you are pulling a trailer you must disconnect it from tow vehicle & park trailer in single space only (parking is limited so please be courteous!).  Please do NOT park in parking lot in front of office (map location D).

Program Guide (schedule/map) and Campsite Assignments will be posted in April.

Check-in

Check-In will be conducted from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Friday and from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday. Please do not arrive earlier or later than the times listed, as the staff will not be prepared.

Parking

Parking is available for all participants. The staff will direct participants to the proper parking area upon arrival.

Materials

All guests will receive a program with a map, schedule, and other important information at check-in. Guests will also receive a wristband. It is very important all guests keep both items at all times.

Documents and Fees

Please bring a copy of your BSA Annual Health and Medical Record, Parts A and B to check-in. They will not be returned. If your lodge dues are not current, you will be required to pay them in order to participate in the event. Remember – Wear the flap, pay your dues!

About Camp Strake

Camp Strake is a first-class, state-of-the-art camp at a rural site near the Sam Houston National Forest, close to the community of Evergreen.

Camp Strake is surrounded on three sides by the Sam Houston National Forest and has the Lone Star Hiking Trail close to one corner of the property.

Camp Strake has 20 campsites with pavilions; modern restrooms and shower houses; climbing and repelling tower; zipline;  an aquatics center with a swimming pool, lake, canoes, and kayaks; a shooting sports complex with rifle, shotgun, and archery range, including a sporting arrows course; and more.

Camp Strake is located on 2,816 acres between New Waverly and Coldspring near the community of Evergreen, Tx. Lake Livingston is 10 miles east of the property. The camp is a 1.5-hour drive from downtown Houston and close to I-45 and the Grand Parkway. Camp Strake is located at 2020 Camp Strake Rd., Coldspring, TX 77331(latitude and longitude: 30.608901, -95.230270)

 

Directions from Houston:

  • Take I-45N to exit 94 (FM 1097) toward Willis
  • Turn right onto Montgomery St. (.7 mi)
  • Turn left onto Danville St. (360 ft)
  • Turn right onto FM 1097 / Stewart St (9.6 mi.)
  • Turn right onto TX-150E (8.8 mi)
  • Turn left onto FM 945N (3.6 mi)
  • Turn left into Camp Strake at the sign.

Scouting Safely

Safety is Your Responsibility posterThe BSA's Commitment to Safety is ongoing and we want you to know that the safety of our youth, volunteers, staff, and employees cannot be compromised. The Boy Scouts of America puts the utmost importance on the safe and healthy environments for its youth membership. The Sam Houston Area Council takes great strides to ensure the safety of its youth as well as the adult volunteer leadership that interacts with them. 

BSA Guide to Safe Scouting policies must be followed. All participants must follow Youth Protection Guidelines at all Scouting events. Highlights include:

  • Two-deep leadership on all outings required.
  • One-on-one contact between adults and youth members is prohibited.
  • The buddy system should be used at all times.
  • Discipline must be constructive.

Health and safety must be integrated into everything we do, to the point that no injuries are acceptable beyond those that are readily treatable by Scout-rendered first aid. As an aid in the continuing effort to protect participants in a Scout activity, the BSA National Health and Safety Committee and the Council Services Division of the BSA National Council have developed the "Sweet Sixteen" of BSA safety procedures for physical activity. These 16 points, which embody good judgment and common sense, are applicable to all activities.

If you hear two air horn blasts, go to the dining hall immediately. In a life or death situation: Call 911 first, then the camp medic. If you need to leave camp: Check out at the camp office. Remember to drink plenty of water.
